FAQ

Does aromatherapy actually work, or is it just nice-smelling?

Aromatherapy works in two layers, neither of them magic.

The first is olfactory. Scent molecules reach the limbic system fast (your smell sense bypasses the gating that other senses go through), which is why a familiar smell can change your mood within seconds.

The second is the active compounds in real essential oils: eucalyptol opens airways, menthol creates a cooling sensation, lavender's linalool has a modestly measured calming effect on the nervous system.

Aromatherapy isn't going to fix anxiety or replace sleep. What it does reliably: change your state for the duration of use, and create a sensory anchor your brain learns to associate with rest, focus, or transition.

The mood is yours; we help create the conditions.

Which scent for which feeling?

Most of our blends map to a clear use case, and the labels give it away.

Calm is for wind-down and stress release.

Energy Boost is for morning or pre-workout pickup.

Stress Relief is for the kind of tension that builds in the chest and shoulders.

Breathe & Release is the respiratory blend for congested mornings or sinus pressure.

Relax & Focus is the in-between state, when you need to come down without falling asleep.

Wildflower is the general floral, for people who don't want a strong functional claim.

Vitamin C is citrus-bright, for morning shower and mood lift.

Black Hatchet blends use eucalyptus, peppermint, and cedar profiles, built for men's bathrooms.

All blends use real essential oils. None uses synthetic fragrance.

Is it safe for sensitive skin, asthma, pregnancy, kids, or pets?

All Latika products are handcrafted in small batches in Texas with recognizable ingredients. Essential oils are potent compounds, so a few safety notes apply.

Sensitive skin: patch-test a leave-on product (cream or balm) on your inner wrist first. Bath products dilute heavily in water, so reactions are less common, but possible. Citrus oils can increase sun sensitivity, so save morning citrus shower steamers for showers rather than pre-beach.

Asthma or respiratory conditions: aromatherapy can be both helpful and triggering, depending on the person. Eucalyptus and peppermint open airways for most people, but can irritate at high concentrations. Start with one shower steamer or one bath bomb before committing to a larger format.

Pregnancy: check with your doctor before use. Several essential oils have professional guidelines we'd rather defer to than guess at.

Kids under 12: defer to your pediatrician on essential oil exposure, especially for shower steamers and bath bombs where the concentration is higher.

Pets (especially cats): most essential oils are toxic to cats when ingested. Diffused in a bathroom during your shower or bath, the exposure to your pet is minimal, but ventilate the room after use, and don't apply scented products directly on your cat or near it their food.

Shower steamer, bath bomb, soak, or scrub - which format should I  choose?

Different formats deliver aromatherapy differently.

Shower steamers release oils with steam. Fastest activation, no skincare effect (you don't apply them to skin). Best for the morning shower or when you don't have time for a bath.

Bath bombs combine aromatherapy with bath time. Longer exposure than a steamer, with mild skin softening from the bath base.

Bath soaks are the longest exposure, with magnesium absorption layered on (in our Magnesium and Epsom soaks). Best for deep wind-down.

Scrubs, soaps, and body washes deliver scent through cleansing. Lower aromatherapy concentration, but daily-use friendly.

Balms and creams are leave-on, with the longest residual scent on skin.

If you want the strongest immediate aromatherapy effect: shower steamer. If you want the longest immersion: soak. If you want it as part of daily hygiene, scrub or soap.

How long does the aromatherapy effect last?

During use, the scent is at its strongest. Shower steamers and bath bombs release oils for 5 to 15 minutes. Soaks last the full duration of your bath.

After use, the scent on your skin lasts 1 to 4 hours, depending on the product. Creams and balms last longest. Soaks and shower steamers fade fastest. The direct aromatherapy effect tracks with the scent. Once the scent fades, the immediate effect fades with it.

That said, your nervous system learns the association quickly. After a few uses, the same scent can trigger the wind-down or wake-up response even before the full ritual.

Are the scents from real essential oils or synthetic fragrance?

All Latika products in this aromatherapy collection use real essential oils, distilled or pressed from the plants. We don't use synthetic fragrance oils, parabens, or phthalates in any product on this page.

The difference matters for two reasons. One is therapeutic: essential oils contain the active compounds (limonene in citrus, eucalyptol in eucalyptus, linalool in lavender) that actually interact with your body.

Synthetic fragrance reproduces the smell but not the chemistry.

Two is air and skin quality: synthetic fragrance is a common source of indoor air irritation and contact reactions. If a label says "fragrance" (singular, vague), assume synthetic until the brand names the actual oils. Our ingredient lists name them.

Why don’t I see all Latika products in this collection?

This page features only products scented with 100% pure essential oils. If you’re looking for our full range, including those fragranced with high-quality fragrance oils, you can explore by scent or product category.

What’s the difference between essential oils and fragrance oils?

Essential oils are naturally extracted from plants, like lavender, eucalyptus, or peppermint. Fragrance oils are lab-created and can mimic a wide variety of scents, including those that don’t exist in nature (think “birthday cake” or “ocean breeze”).

Why use essential oils?

Essential oils offer a natural, plant-based scent experience and are often chosen for their aromatherapeutic benefits. They require a large amount of plant material to be made and can be more subtle or earthy in scent.
